SAP BASIS ADMINISTRATOR | SMUD | Sacramento, CA

The SAP BASIS ADMINISTRATOR will be responsible to provide technical support and analysis in a broad range of information technology areas including the implementation, upgrade and enhancement of the District's SAP systems software, hardware and SAP/R/3, SAP BW, SAP Portal, SAP Console, SAP Business Connector applications to ensure a state-of-the-art, stable, accurate and reliable computing environment that meet the needs of business units and the needs of the SAP support staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1.Supports SAP system software and hardware infrastructure by maintaining the SAP system within the specified service level agreement; planning, executing and communicating normal maintenance schedule; analyzing, communicating and resolving problems for non-planned downtimes within specified guidelines; scheduling and implementing back-up/restore components of the SAP production and non-production environments; transferring data between different environments; ensuring availability/connectivity between District and SAP on-line software services; and providing support for the District SAP batch processing and printing function. 2. Analyzes the need for modifications, upgrades and enhancements to existing SAP system software and/or hardware by evaluating the effectiveness of the current system; performing needs, feasibility and gap analysis; providing consulting expertise to SAP functional teams and technical staff; obtaining upgrades/mini release requests from functional users; identifying needed SAP system software and hardware changes and enhancements; revising system requirements; designing modifications; identifying vendor/provided upgrades and collaborate with functional users; integrating modifications utilizing adopted transport method for migration of objects between different SAP development, test and production environments; coordinating, planning and executing upgrades/enhancement activities with project team; creating and modifying the production and non-production environments; communicating the plan, activities and expected results of upgrades/enhancements/mini releases; developing testing criteria and conducting testing; documenting changes; and providing technical consultation and solutions. 3. Developing and implementing landscape architecture and strategy communication material; assisting in developing, communicating and presenting landscape architecture and client/instance strategy to key personnel; obtaining management approval and implementing; documenting and communicating final results. 4. Supports the SAP infrastructure by managing the SAP/R3 environment; monitoring systems including database, operating system and SAP/R3, SAP BW, SAP Portal, SAP Console, SAP Business Connector applications; coordinating and communicating with SAP functional staff, SAP technical support staff and other technical support organizations; serving as primary contact between vendor and District; and developing and maintaining procedures. 5. Assists in planning, reviewing and conducting work activities and researching required project information associated with department internal/external projects in accordance with established task objectives and schedule as outlined in the project plan/contract.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
[KNOWLEDGE OF:] SAP R/3, SAP BW, SAP Portal, SAP Console, SAP Business Connector, SAP XI, SAP Mobile Infrastructure System administration, Netweaver 04 architecture, SAP Security Administration; familiarity with SQL including ways to optimize SQL code; operating systems of Unix/Solaris and Windows 2003.[SKILL TO:] Monitor and tune the SAP database, monitor and tune the various SAP Applications; weigh various suggested technical solutions against the original business needs, ability to effectively communicate technical solutions.

[EXPERIENCE:] At least three (3) years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in information technology supporting the basis component of SAP systems. EDUCATION: BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university majoring in Computer Science, MIS or related field or equivalent experience.
